Lineside Passes are available to railway enthusiasts, photographers and others and give permission for the holder to be on Railway land where they are not normally permitted to be but subject to conditions and restrictions.  The cost of passes varies depending on what is happening on the Railway but prices start from just £5 per day. These passes should be booked in advance.

Guidelines

  • Where stout footwear and suitable clothing as if you were going on a hill walk or similar.
  • Do not walk on the sleepers.  Wood sleepers are very slippery when wet.
  • Do not walk on the rails.  When crossing a line look both ways and cross at 90 degrees to the line.
  • Children under the age of 14 are not permitted, and Children and Young Persons aged from 14 to 18 must be accompanied by a responsible parent or other legal guardian.
  • Rule 4 (below) requires you to wear ORANGE High Visibility clothing and with your pass visible.  If you do this you are less likely to be challenged by Railway Staff.  At busy times (Like our Steam and Diesel Galas) our operating staff on the ground will know what passes have been issued and will ask those not displaying a pass to leave.  (Yellow high visibility clothing (as used on the roads) is not acceptable by the HM Railway Inspectorate or the Railway.
