"No 19" Bagnall 0-4-0ST No. 2962

No. 19 was the last steam engine to be built for use in the HM Devonport Dockyard; ironically she spent nineteen years in the docks, shunting.  The late owner of No.19 bought her from the docks as a souvenir for a lifetimes work as a fitter in the docks.  No.19 left the docks in 1969 and went to work at the Bugle Steam Railway for several years.  She went on to become the first engine to work on the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, in 1986 for an open day. After which she moved permanently to Bodmin.  In 1992 she returned to Devon for the first time in 23 years to make a guest appearance at the South Devon Railway’s spring event, and in 1993 travelled to Wiltshire to work trains on the Swindon and Cricklade Railway.  More recently she has been to Bere Alston for railway celebrations.

The loco is cared for by the Cornish Steam Locomotive Preservation Society

No. 19 was taken out of service in 1996 so its wheel tyres could be replaced.  Private contractors at Swindon Works undertook this work in early-1997.  She returned to steam in 1998.

As train lengths have increased it has seen very little use in the last couple of years and but after passing her boiler exam in May 2003, she worked various brake van specials, but due to leaky tubes she was withdrawn from service in August 2003.  Work was completed in 2007 and she is now operational again.
